Well, the Iowa State Cyclones sure looked impressive on Saturday when they hosted the Kansas Jayhawks in Ames, Iowa. As the Cyclones continue to work on their standing in the Big 12 for the purpose of getting to a better bowl game, this win will go a long way for that purpose.
Rocco Becht, Iowa State’s quarterback, thrived against the Jayhawks defense as he completed 18 of 23 passes for 241 yards and three touchdowns. On the other side, Kansas Jayhawks quarterback Jalon Daniels didn’t have much fun, completing just 13 of 23 pass attempts for 154 and zero touchdowns against an interception.
So much of the success that Iowa State experienced in this game came in the first half as the Cyclones established a 17-0 lead over Kansas and then cruised on to a lopsided 38-14 win over the Jayhawks.
Iowa State is now 7-4 overall and 4-4 in Big 12 play. Meanwhile, the Jayhawks stumble to 5-6 overall and 3-5 against Big 12 teams.
Big 12 football update: Kansas Jayhawks knocked down as Iowa State secures dominant home win over KU
It’s becoming more and more apparent that Iowa State can still have a solid season, despite the less-than-ideal moments that they’ve experienced at times this season. It’s got to be known that the Cyclones certainly have a very real shot at getting to nine wins with a bowl win. That’s huge for that program.
Also, it’s worth pointing out how Matt Campbell continues to do a great job with the Cyclones.
Time and time again, he has found a way to put the Cyclones in a great position to win games. I have no clue how much longer he’ll be the coach of Iowa State, there’s no doubt in my mind that other programs will want him as their head coach, but still, this is a season that Iowa State fans should enjoy.
