Grant McCasland and the Texas Tech Red Raiders just secured a really impressive home win to move up a smidge in the Big 12 standings. In a game that featured a one point difference at halftime, the Red Raiders were able to secure a 13-point victory over the No. 11 BYU Cougars in Lubbock.

And of course, it feels incredibly important to now bring up once more about how the Red Raiders are so difficult to beat at home. Texas Tech is 10-0 when playing at United Supermarkets Arena (and 4-4 in neutral and away games).

So, getting the Cougars at home was a pretty big deal. And now Texas Tech has some more momentum to roll forward with.

Updated Big 12 men’s basketball standings: Texas Tech Red Raiders climb after beating the BYU Cougars in Lubbock

Here’s what the Big 12 men’s basketball standings now look like with the Red Raiders getting the double digit win over the BYU Cougars.

  • Arizona Wildcats (18-0 overall, 5-0 Big 12)
  • Houston Cougars (16-1 overall, 4-0 Big 12)
  • Texas Tech Red Raiders (14-4 overall, 4-1 Big 12)
  • BYU Cougars (16-2 overall, 4-1 Big 12)
  • Iowa State Cyclones (16-2 overall, 3-2 Big 12)
  • UCF Knights (14-3 overall, 3-2 Big 12)
  • Kansas Jayhawks (13-5 overall, 3-2 Big 12)
  • West Virginia Mountaineers (12-6 overall, 3-2 Big 12)
  • Colorado Buffaloes (12-6 overall, 2-3 Big 12)
  • Cincinnati Bearcats (10-8 overall, 2-3 Big 12)
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys (13-4 overall, 1-3 Big 12)
  • Arizona State Sun Devils (10-7 overall, 1-3 Big 12)
  • Baylor Bears (11-6 overall, 1-4 Big 12)
  • TCU Horned Frogs (11-7 overall, 1-4 Big 12)
  • Utah Utes (9-9 overall, 1-4 Big 12)
  • Kansas State Wildcats (9-8 overall, 0-4 Big 12)

Considering Texas Tech’s lone conference loss up to this point came against the Houston Cougars, that’s a pretty solid spot for the Red Raiders to be, just one spot behind the folks over in the Bayou City. Being in the top three in the conference right now (granted, it’s still very early) feels pretty good.

As long as Texas Tech keeps handling business against other Big 12 teams, then McCasland and the Red Raiders should be fine. This win against the No. 11 BYU Cougars helps prove that that’s more than possible.
