After a really strong and historic season for the Texas Tech Red Raiders (and a ton of success for the Big 12 as a whole in the college football bowl season), the Big 12 has begun sharing its scheduling for the 2026 college football season.

And it’s going to be a fascinating one for the conference.

This year, there will be two Big 12 games across the Atlantic Ocean (something I’m not totally in love with, but it’s quirky and fun and more or less fits the ethos and philosophy that the Big 12 is embracing about trying to do things a little differently and more chaotically than everyone else).

Oh, and the Big 12 Championship Game is going to be on a Friday night. So, while we don’t officially know that the Red Raiders will be in the Big 12 title game, it’s probably a safe assumption given the schedule that the Texas Tech football team ended up getting (and the massive amounts of talent that have been amassed in Lubbock).

I mean, truly, for the Red Raiders, the schedule is very manageable.

Texas Tech gets things started off with Abilene Christian in Lubbock, a trip out to the Pacific Northwest to face Oregon State, and then back to Lubbock to meet up with Sam Houston State (who is actually an FBS team and not an FCS team anymore which is something I suspect folks outside of East Texas will forget from time to time).

And from there, things are just still kind of smooth and easy. But the season ends in a way that I love. We’ll get to see Texas Tech meet up with the Baylor Bears, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and the TCU Horned Frogs to wrap up the regular season.

For the conference as a whole, while Texas Tech still needs to beef up its non-conference slate a good bit, it’s good to see that there are a number of teams willing to meet up with some challenging foes. TCU gets North Carolina in Dublin (TBD if that will be a true challenge for the Horned Frogs), BYU is taking on Notre Dame, and Arizona State will face Texas A&M.

Kickoff times for the season are still to be determined, but it’s fun to go ahead and start planning out possible road trips and where to go this season.
