Saturday wasn’t quite as busy as Friday was for the Big 12 softball scene, but there was still plenty of action all across the conference (which means all across the country given the overall footprint of the Big 12 these days). Six games featuring Big 12 teams and that included some series wins, an upset, and even an in-state non-conference loss for one Big 12 team.
Given that plenty happened, let’s take a full look at the college softball results across the Big 12 from Saturday.
Saturday’s Big 12 softball recap: BYU shocks Utah, Texas Tech survives in Tempe, and Arizona just keeps winning
Let’s go ahead and start with the Texas Tech Red Raiders and how Gerry Glasco’s Texas Tech softball team managed to survive. NiJaree pitched throughout the game and allowed just three earned runs while also striking out nine opposing batters. The game was a little close for comfort, but the Red Raiders managed to secure a series win and Texas Tech is now 46-4 on the season and 18-2 in Big 12 play.
The Kansas Jayhawks also survived their matchup from Saturday as they went to extra innings with the Iowa State Cyclones in Lawrence and came away with a 4-2 win. Kansas is now 13-8 against Big 12 teams while Iowa State sits at 8-13.
Over in Waco, the Oklahoma State Cowgirls continued to build momentum as they absolutely surged past the Baylor Bears to the tune of 9-1. Oklahoma State sits at 13-7 in Big 12 play and the Cowgirls are looking to sweep Baylor who is now 9-11 against Big 12 opponents.
The Arizona Wildcats really had no issue with the Houston Cougars, which isn’t all that shocking given that UH is the very worst team in the Big 12 right now. But, interestingly enough, the second-worst team in the Big 12 managed to get a shocking win as the BYU Cougars upset the Utah Utes.
And then the only non-conference matchup of the day was when the UCF Knights happened to get shutout by the Florida Gators, who are still really good.
