Gerry Glasco and the Texas Tech Red Raiders have a lot to be proud of. This is a team that is the clear frontrunner in the Big 12 and the Red Raiders’ lead in the conference just keeps getting more pronounced. After sweeping through and beating the brakes off of the Iowa State Cyclones with three straight run-rule wins, Texas Tech is 34-2 overall and 11-1 in Big 12 play.

And there’s really nobody that’s sitting right behind the Red Raiders right now. The Arizona Wildcats are the next closest team in the conference, but Texas Tech already proved that the Red Raiders are a decent bit better than them thanks to that series win earlier this season.

Now, after taking the series sweep against Iowa State with three run-rule wins, the Red Raiders hold a comfortable lead atop the Big 12 standings. Here’s what that looks like:

Texas Tech holds a solid lead over the rest of the Big 12 softball teams when looking at the latest Big 12 softball standings

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders (34-2 overall, 11-1 Big 12)
  • Arizona Wildcats (27-8 overall, 9-3 Big 12)
  • Kansas Jayhawks (25-10 overall, 6-3 Big 12)
  • Oklahoma State Cowgirls (25-10 overall, 7-5 Big 12)
  • Baylor Bears (21-12 overall, 5-4 Big 12)
  • UCF Knights (28-10 overall, 6-6 Big 12)
  • Utah Utes (25-11 overall, 4-5 Big 12)
  • Iowa State Cyclones (20-13 overall, 3-6 Big 12)
  • Arizona State Sun Devils (28-9 overall, 3-6 Big 12)
  • BYU Cougars (11-22 overall, 2-7 Big 12)
  • Houston Cougars (17-21 overall, 1-11 Big 12)

It’s great to see Texas Tech at the top with a solid lead over the Wildcats there. And when you factor in how Texas Tech took two games from Arizona in that series a few weeks back, it really feels like Glasco and the Red Raiders are in complete and total control of their own destiny right now.
