With a sweep of the Arizona State Sun Devils, Gerry Glasco and the Texas Tech Red Raiders officially ended up clinching the conference crown for the Big 12 regular season championship. That’s right, in just two seasons of Glasco leading the Red Raiders, the Texas Tech softball team has managed to win back-to-back Big 12 regular season titles.

Which obviously means that in the Big 12 softball standings, Texas Tech stands alone at the top of the conference. That four-game cushion that the Red Raiders have been holding onto above the Arizona Wildcats is now enough for Texas Tech to own the conference championship this year.

But Texas Tech isn’t the only team in the Big 12. Let’s take a look around the conference and see how things are shaking out below the Red Raiders in the Big 12 softball standings as we head into the final week of the regular season.

Here’s where every Big 12 softball team stands as the regular season winds down and the Texas Tech Red Raiders win the conference

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders - 47-4 overall, 19-2 Big 12
  • Arizona Wildcats - 34-13 overall, 15-6 Big 12
  • Oklahoma State Cowgirls - 34-12 overall, 14-7 Big 12
  • Kansas Jayhawks - 32-16 overall, 13-8 Big 12
  • UCF Knights - 36-13-1 overall, 12-8-1 Big 12
  • Baylor Bears - 27-23 overall, 9-12 Big 12
  • Utah Utes - 32-18-1 overall, 8-12-1 Big 12
  • Arizona State Sun Devils - 35-16 overall, 8-13 Big 12
  • Iowa State Cyclones - 27-21 overall, 8-13 Big 12
  • BYU Cougars - 18-30 overall, 7-14 Big 12
  • Houston Cougars - 20-31 overall, 3-21 Big 12

At this point, the race for No. 2 is what I find to be most interesting. While the Arizona Wildcats won’t play the Oklahoma State Cowgirls in the final weekend of the regular season, Kansas and Oklahoma State will face off while Arizona gets to take on a Utah team that provided some challenges to Texas Tech earlier this season.

Those two series will help determine who comes in second in the Big 12 this season and that could end up impacting the postseason picture for all four of those teams involved in those series.
