If Texas Tech can avoid stumbling while on the road in Manhattan this weekend, then the Red Raiders should be just fine in terms of separating a bit from some of the peskier teams in the conference’s middle class that would like to see Texas Tech stumble.
The Red Raiders currently hold a tie for third in the Big 12 standings, right there with Willie Fritz and the Houston Cougars. And that’s not the ideal sort of situation for Texas Tech, but it’s really not the worst thing ever.
Now, a loss would just about knock Texas Tech out of the running for the Big 12 championship game. So, I, for one, would advise the Red Raiders to not lose this weekend. Or any of the other remaining college football weekends.
And here’s why.
Big 12 football standings, Week 10: Texas Tech has a chance to keep moving along as the Red Raiders go to Kansas State
Here’s what the Big 12 standings look like right now as the Red Raiders get set to take on the Kansas State Wildcats in the Little Apple:
- BYU Cougars - 8-0 overall, 5-0 Big 12
- Cincinnati Bearcats - 7-1 overall, 5-0 Big 12
- Texas Tech Red Raiders - 7-1 overall, 4-1 Big 12
- Houston Cougars - 7-1 overall, 4-1 Big 12
- TCU Horned Frogs - 6-2 overall, 3-2 Big 12
- Utah Utes - 6-2 overall, 3-2 Big 12
- Arizona State Sun Devils - 5-3 overall, 3-2 Big 12
- Kansas State Wildcats - 4-4 overall, 3-2 Big 12
- Iowa State Cyclones - 5-3 overall, 2-3 Big 12
- Baylor Bears - 4-4 overall, 2-3 Big 12
- Kansas Jayhawks - 4-4 overall, 2-3 Big 12
- Arizona Wildcats - 4-3 overall, 1-3 Big 12
- UCF Knights - 4-3 overall, 1-3 Big 12
- Colorado Buffaloes - 3-5 overall, 1-4 Big 12
- West Virginia Mountaineers - 2-6 overall, 0-5 Big 12
- Oklahoma State Cowboys - 1-7 overall, 0-5 Big 12
And really, as long as the Red Raiders just keep winning, they’ll be just fine. A matchup with Kansas State this weekend is certainly a winnable one. Next week’s home game against the BYU Cougars (who are at the top of the standings here) might be tough. It, yeah, it might be tough.
But outside of that, the Red Raiders have a bye week, a matchup with the UCF Knights, and then a game against West Virginia on the road. All of that is very, very doable.
