Folks, we’ve made it through five weeks of the college football season. Five full weeks. And the most recent was one of the most intriguing and exciting weekends that we’ve had in this sport in quite some time when looking at everything happening across the country.
A number of teams towards the top of the top 25 rankings ended up losing and that caused some shakeups on a national scale. Focusing a bit more and zooming in on the Big 12 and we’ve seen a bit of shakeups in this conference as well.
Just examining things through the lens of the conference level, and it’s interesting. Right now, Texas Tech is in a four-way tie for third place in the conference.
Of course, the Red Raiders are fresh off a bye week and they’ve got a chance to show just how good they are coming up as they head to Houston to face the UH Cougars, who happen to be trapped in that tie for third place right now.
Here’s what the Big 12 standings look like as we head to week 6.

- West Virginia Mountaineers (2-3 overall, 0-2 Big 12)
It’s early. I’m going to keep reiterating that until it is no longer indeed early. And while we’re inching closer to reaching the midway point in the season, we’re still early in conference play. Half the conference has only played one Big 12 game so far.
Still, it’s interesting to see teams like Cincinnati and Houston doing okay for themselves right now and then teams like Kansas State, Kansas, and TCU experiencing various degrees of setbacks in the early parts of conference play.
