Following a win over the TCU Horned Frogs, the Arizona State Sun Devils have claimed the top spot of the Big 12 football standings for the 2025 season. I mean, it is absolutely early on in the season, but Arizona State now has the top spot all to itself. They’re not sharing it with anyone at the moment. It’s just Arizona State up there right now.
And that’s because they were able to beat TCU 27-24 this week and Baylor 27-24 last week. It’s a little weird that they were able to beat both TCU and Baylor by identical scores and in back-to-back games (and it’s worth noting that both of those games were very stressful for just about everyone involved in them).
But hey, college football gets weird sometimes.
Here’s what the Big 12 standings look like right now in Week 5 following the Sun Devils’ stressful home win over the TCU Horned Frogs:
Big 12 football standings, Week 5: Arizona State moves up after the Sun Devils secure a stressful win over TCU
- Arizona State Sun Devils (4-1 overall, 2-0 Big 12)
- Iowa State Cyclones (4-0 overall, 1-0 Big 12)
- Texas Tech Red Raiders (4-0 overall, 1-0 Big 12)
- Houston Cougars (3-0 overall, 1-0 Big 12)
- Kansas Jayhawks (3-1 overall, 1-0 Big 12)
- Arizona Wildcats (3-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12)
- BYU Cougars (3-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12)
- UCF Knights (3-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12)
- Cincinnati Bearcats (2-1 overall, 0-0 Big 12)

- Utah Utes (3-1 overall, 0-1 Big 12)
- Baylor Bears (2-2 overall, 0-1 Big 12)
- Colorado Buffaloes (2-2 overall, 0-1 Big 12)
- West Virginia Mountaineers (2-2 overall, 0-1 Big 12)
- Kansas State Wildcats (1-3 overall, 0-1 Big 12)
Obviously these are going to change a bit this weekend because we’re going to see a few more conference matchups take place in Week 5.
Regardless, the Red Raiders are in a solid spot right now. Yes, I know they’re not at the top, but there is plenty of time for this Texas Tech team to fix that. There’s plenty of football to play. And of course, we’ll get to see McGuire and the Red Raiders face off against this very stressful Arizona State team soon enough.
