We’re closing in on the Big 12 championship game and we still don’t totally know who will be competing for the conference crown in Arlington once the regular season wraps up. What we do know is that the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the BYU Cougars are at the top of the conference (with Texas Tech having a slight edge over BYU due to a regular season win).

If the BYU Cougars somehow stumble this weekend, then things could get interesting down the way as the Utah Utes and Arizona State Sun Devils have identical 6-2 conference records right now and could end up being tied with the Cougars by the time the weekend is done.

And that’s when some of the really fun, quirky Big 12 tiebreakers would take place.

Big 12 standings, Week 14: Texas Tech Red Raiders take the top spot as the regular season starts to wrap up

Here’s how the Big 12 standings are shaking up as the Red Raiders and the Cougars hold the top two spots in the conference:

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders (10-1 overall, 7-1 Big 12)
  • BYU Cougars (10-1 overall, 7-1 Big 12)
  • Utah Utes (9-2 overall, 6-2 Big 12)
  • Arizona State Sun Devils (8-3 overall, 6-2 Big 12)
  • Arizona Wildcats (8-3 overall, 5-3 Big 12)
  • Houston Cougars (8-3 overall, 5-3 big 12)
  • Cincinnati Bearcats (7-4 overall, 5-3 Big 12)
  • Iowa State Cyclones (7-4 overall, 4-4 Big 12)
  • Kansas State Wildcats (5-6 overall, 4-4 Big 12)
  • TCU Horned Frogs (7-4 overall, 4-4 Big 12)
  • Baylor Bears (5-6 overall, 3-5 Big 12)
  • Kansas Jayhawks (5-6 overall, 3-5 Big 12)
  • UCF Knights (5-6 overall, 2-6 Big 12)
  • West Virginia Mountaineers (4-7 overall, 2-6 Big 12)
  • Colorado Buffaloes (3-8 overall, 1-7 Big 12)
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys (1-10 overall, 0-7 Big 12)

Assuming both the Red Raiders and the Cougars win this weekend, which is certainly a realistic thing to expect given that Texas Tech will be playing the West Virginia Mountaineers (who are certainly not great) and BYU gets to face the UCF Knights (who definitely aren’t much better), then we’re going to see a rematch in the conference title game.
