The Kansas Jayhawks didn’t play a conference opponent. They don’t have a conference win. But right now, after dismantling the Fresno State Bulldogs in Lawrence, Kansas, it looks like they’re going to be in a pretty decent spot in the very early conference standings.

I mean, when you sort things by conference wins and such, it’s hard to actually say that Kansas is better than Kansas State. And it gets even harder to make that sort of argument when you factor in how small of a sample size we have right now.

That doesn’t mean Kansas fans won’t gloat a little (as they should, college football rivalries are the perfect place for some shenanigans).

Because right now, Kansas has an unbeaten, unblemished record. Kansas State, meanwhile, has lost every single game that it’s played. And the Jayhawks are pretty dang close to the top of the Big 12 standings behind Iowa State.

Let's take a look, folks.

Kansas doesn’t have a Big 12 conference win just yet, but the Jayhawks did get a solid victory over Fresno State

With Kansas getting a win over Fresno State to start the 2025 Jayhawks football season, here’s what the latest Big 12 conference standings look like now:

  • Iowa State Cyclones: 1-0 overall, 1-0 Big 12
  • Kansas Jayhawks: 1-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Arizona Wildcats: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Arizona State Sun Devils: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Baylor Bears: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • BYU Cougars: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Cincinnati Bearcats: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Colorado Buffaloes: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Houston Cougars: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • TCU Horned Frogs: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Texas Tech Red Raiders: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • UCF Knights: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Utah Utes: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • West Virginia Mountaineers: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Kansas State Wildcats: 0-1 overall, 0-1 Big 12: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12

Look, again, the Jayhawks don’t have a conference win just yet. But it absolutely, positively has to feel good for Kansas football fans to see their favorite team near the top of the Big 12 standings thanks to that dominant season opening win while the Kansas State Wildcats are at the bottom of the league right now.

Now, again, it’s also worth remembering that there’s a whole lot of season left up ahead for everyone in this conference. There’s more than enough time for the Wildcats to go out and get plenty of Big 12 wins this season.
