The Kansas State Wildcats decided to take a trip to another country to face off against the Iowa State Cyclones and it certainly didn’t pay off for K-State. In the first Big 12 game of the season (as well as the first college football game of the season), Kansas State came up short in a close matchup.

Now, as a result, Kansas State sits at the very bottom of the Big 12.

The Wildcats have literally lost every single game they’ve played so far this season. Iowa State, on the other hand, has won every single game the Cyclones have played. And that means good things for Iowa State. Bad things for K-State, but folks in Ames sure have to be thrilled with the way things look right now.

Let’s take a look at the early (very early) Big 12 conference standings, shall we?

Kansas State sits at the very bottom of the Big 12 conference standings following a very close loss vs. Iowa State

Here’s how things look right now:

  • Iowa State Cyclones: 1-0 overall, 1-0 Big 12
  • Arizona Wildcats: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Arizona State Sun Devils: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Baylor Bears: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • BYU Cougars: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Cincinnati Bearcats: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Colorado Buffaloes: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Houston Cougars: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Kansas Jayhawks: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • TCU Horned Frogs: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Texas Tech Red Raiders: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • UCF Knights: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Utah Utes: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • West Virginia Mountaineers: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12
  • Kansas State Wildcats: 0-1 overall, 0-1 Big 12: 0-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12

Right now, Iowa State sits on the top of the mountain. Kansas State sits at the very bottom. And it’s interesting because it’s worth wondering what kind of role being in Ireland may have played for these two teams.

Was one relatively underwhelming because this game didn’t take place a little closer to home? How did having a drastically different atmosphere play into this?

Regardless of the factors that may have influenced the end result of this matchup, it doesn’t matter too much right now. The Cyclones have the top of the standings and records right now. Kansas State is at the bottom. And we’ll see how the rest of this season plays out.
