The Cincinnati Bearcats are having a pretty interesting season. This was a program that a few people have been writing off in recent years and right now, they’re looking to be a problem for longtime members of the Big 12.
Like the Kansas Jayhawks, for example.
Kansas got into a shootout with Cincinnati in Lawrence, Kansas and still came up short of being able to beat the Bearcats. These two teams managed to gain a combined total of 1200 yards in this game. 71 points scored between the two of them!
And KU just couldn’t get it done. Because of that, the Bearcats are now moving up ahead of Kansas in the Big 12 standings. Here’s what the Big 12 standings look like in Week 5 after the Jayhawks fell short against Cincinnati:
Big 12 standings, Week 5: Cincinnati’s impressive win vs. Kansas moves the Bearcats up in the conference
- Arizona State Sun Devils (4-1 overall, 2-0 Big 12)
- Iowa State Cyclones (4-0 overall, 1-0 Big 12)
- Texas Tech Red Raiders (4-0 overall, 1-0 Big 12)
- Houston Cougars (4-0 overall, 1-0 Big 12)
- Cincinnati Bearcats (3-1 overall, 1-0 Big 12)
- Kansas Jayhawks (3-2 overall, 1-1 Big 12)
- Arizona Wildcats (3-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12)
- BYU Cougars (3-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12)
- UCF Knights (3-0 overall, 0-0 Big 12)
- Oklahoma State Cowboys (1-2 overall, 0-0 Big 12)
- TCU Horned Frogs (3-1 overall, 0-1 Big 12)
- Utah Utes (3-1 overall, 0-1 Big 12)
- Baylor Bears (2-2 overall, 0-1 Big 12)
- Colorado Buffaloes (2-2 overall, 0-1 Big 12)
- West Virginia Mountaineers (2-2 overall, 0-1 Big 12)
- Kansas State Wildcats (1-3 overall, 0-1 Big 12)
Technically speaking, Cincinnati is now tied for second in the Big 12 with Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders (and also the Iowa State Cyclones and Houston Cougars). That’s an impressive spot for Cincinnati to be in.
And while the Bearcats are seemingly determined to pester some folks this season, Texas Tech won’t have to deal with them at any point this year. Unless both teams end up in the Big 12 championship game somehow. Then that might be interesting.
