Well, the Texas Tech Lady Raiders just suffered yet another frustrating and disappointing loss. For the third time in four games, we’ve seen the Texas Tech women’s basketball team fall short and lose a game. This time in incredibly aggravating fashion as the Lady Raiders, at home, ended up losing by double digits.

With that loss, the Lady Raiders now essentially have no margin for error if they want to be able to win the Big 12 crown in the regular season. Texas Tech can’t afford to drop more games down the stretch as the Lady Raiders currently sit in a tie for third place in the Big 12 standings following the 84-70 loss to the Iowa State Cyclones.

Texas Tech is currently behind the likes of the Baylor Bears and TCU Horned Frogs and it really feels like the Lady Raiders are losing ground to the top two teams in the conference despite the fact that Baylor’s lone Big 12 loss came against Texas Tech in Waco.

We’ve seen TTU play at a high level and beat some of the best in the conference and now the Lady Raiders are struggling against folks from the middle of the pack in the Big 12 this season.

And for what it’s worth, the middle is pretty crowded right now:

Big 12 women’s basketball standings update: Texas Tech Lady Raiders tied for No. 3 following frustrating loss to Iowa State

Here’s what the Big 12 women’s basketball standings look like now following the Lady Raiders’ 14-point home loss against the Iowa State Cyclones:

  • Baylor Bears (19-3 overall, 8-1 Big 12)
  • TCU Horned Frogs (19-2 overall, 7-1 Big 12)
  • Texas Tech Lady Raiders (20-3 overall, 7-3 Big 12)
  • West Virginia Mountaineers (17-5 overall, 7-3 Big 12)
  • Oklahoma State Cowgirls (17-5 overall, 6-3 Big 12)
  • Utah Utes (15-6 overall, 6-3 Big 12)
  • Arizona State Sun Devils (18-4 overall, 5-4 Big 12)
  • Iowa State Cyclones (17-5 overall, 5-5 Big 12)
  • Colorado Buffaloes (13-7 overall, 4-4 Big 12)
  • Kansas State Wildcats (11-10 overall, 4-4 Big 12)
  • BYU Cougars (15-6 overall, 4-5 Big 12)
  • Kansas Jayhawks (13-8 overall, 3-6 Big 12)
  • Cincinnati Bearcats (8-13 overall, 3-6 Big 12)
  • UCF Knights (10-10 overall, 2-7 Big 12)
  • Arizona Wildcats (10-10 overall, 1-8 Big 12)
  • Houston Cougars (6-14 overall, 0-9 Big 12)

Texas Tech has a game against the TCU Horned Frogs coming up this weekend and it’s starting to feel like that’s become a must-win if the Lady Raiders want to stay in the race to win the Big 12 this season.

Nationally, things look fine for Texas Tech at 20-3 overall, but against Big 12 competition, the Lady Raiders have stumbled a few more times than they probably should have (with this latest loss feeling incredibly deflating).
