Is there any Big 12 team that has underachieved more than the Baylor Bears this season? Truly, I’d love to know. Because this is a team that should be competing amongst the best in the conference is stumbling and bumbling around to multiple infuriating (for Baylor fans) losses all throughout this season.

Baylor has arguably the best quarterback in the conference in Sawyer Roberston and nobody in the Big 12 has a better passing attack than what the Bears bring to the table. But yet, Baylor is now 5-5 overall and 3-4 in Big 12 play after losing 55-28 to the Utah Utes.

Baylor has now lost three of its last four games and two of those losses (against the Cincinnati Bearcats and the Utes) weren’t even remotely close. It’s totally understandable why Baylor fans are fed up with Dave Aranda.

Meanwhile, the Utes are doing everything in their power to try to fight and get into the Big 12 championship game. It’s going to be really tough and Utah is going to need some help from some of the other Big 12 teams to be able to pull it off.

But, if things get chaotic down the stretch and teams like BYU, Houston, Cincinnati, and Arizona State get cannibalized by the Big 12, then maybe we’ll see Utah make it to Arlington.

Big 12 football standings after the Utah Utes had no issue handing the Baylor Bears a lopsided loss

With Baylor falling in humiliating fashion against the Utes, here’s what the Big 12 standings look like:

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders (10-1 overall, 7-1 Big 12)
  • BYU Cougars (8-1 overall, 5-1 Big 12)
  • Houston Cougars (8-2 overall, 5-2 big 12)
  • Cincinnati Bearcats (7-3 overall, 5-2 Big 12)
  • Arizona State Sun Devils (7-3 overall, 5-2 Big 12)
  • Utah Utes (8-2 overall, 5-2 Big 12)
  • Kansas State Wildcats (5-5 overall, 4-3 Big 12)
  • Arizona Wildcats (7-3 overall, 4-3 Big 12)
  • TCU Horned Frogs (6-3 overall, 3-3 Big 12)
  • Baylor Bears (5-5 overall, 3-4 Big 12)
  • Iowa State Cyclones (6-4 overall, 3-4 Big 12)
  • Kansas Jayhawks (5-5 overall, 3-4 Big 12)
  • West Virginia Mountaineers (4-7 overall, 2-6 Big 12)
  • UCF Knights (4-6 overall, 1-6 Big 12)
  • Colorado Buffaloes (3-7 overall, 1-6 Big 12)
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys (1-9 overall, 0-7 Big 12)

It’s going to be absolutely fascinating to watch the next couple of weeks to see who makes it to the Big 12 championship game. The Red Raiders get to rest this coming week and watch everything unfold across the conference. After that, all Texas Tech has left is the struggling West Virginia Mountaineers, which is encouraging to see.
