Big 12 standings update: Baylor crumbles vs. Arizona as Wildcats continue hot streak

Well, the Baylor Bears aren’t doing so great right now. Just days after Baylor’s head football coach Dave Aranda received the backing of university leadership, the Baylor football team lost to the Arizona Wildcats by 24 points.

And I’m sure this is frustrating for Baylor football fans!

The Bears entered the season with some pretty high aspirations and they’ve had one of the most productive offenses in the Big 12 and right now they’re one loss away from missing out on a bowl game this season.

For Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders, that’s a perfectly fine sort of thing.

The Bears don’t seem to be much of a threat on the recruiting trail right now and because they’ve decided to keep Aranda for another season, it’s not like either Mack Leftwich or Shiel Wood will be offered the head coaching role in Waco (though I wouldn’t be shocked if they get some offers sooner rather than later once more jobs do open up).

Big 12 football standings: Baylor stumbles while Arizona keeps rolling

Here’s what the Big 12 standings looked like as the Bears fell flat against Arizona:

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders (10-1 overall, 7-1 Big 12)
  • BYU Cougars (8-1 overall, 5-1 Big 12)
  • Houston Cougars (8-2 overall, 5-2 big 12)
  • Cincinnati Bearcats (7-3 overall, 5-2 Big 12)
  • Arizona State Sun Devils (7-3 overall, 5-2 Big 12)
  • Arizona Wildcats (8-3 overall, 5-3 Big 12)
  • Utah Utes (7-2 overall, 4-2 Big 12)
  • Kansas State Wildcats (5-5 overall, 4-3 Big 12)
  • Iowa State Cyclones (7-4 overall, 4-4 Big 12)
  • TCU Horned Frogs (6-3 overall, 3-3 Big 12)
  • Baylor Bears (5-4 overall, 3-3 Big 12)
  • Kansas Jayhawks (5-6 overall, 3-5 Big 12)
  • West Virginia Mountaineers (4-7 overall, 2-6 Big 12)
  • UCF Knights (4-6 overall, 1-6 Big 12)
  • Colorado Buffaloes (3-7 overall, 1-6 Big 12)
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys (1-9 overall, 0-7 Big 12)

Also, hey, maybe Arizona is pretty good. Maybe it’s a good thing that McGuire and the Red Raiders didn’t get matched up with them this season. Right now, Arizona is on a four game winning streak and has managed to cause plenty of headaches for some of the teams that have been in their way of that winning streak.

Not that I think the Wildcats would have beaten the Red Raiders, but I’m just kind of glad that we didn’t have to deal with that sort of headache.
