Well, this isn’t at all what the Cincinnati Bearcats needed as they aim to make it to the Big 12 championship game this season. Cincinnati has now lost in back-to-back weeks (oddly enough, falling against former Pac-12 teams) as the Arizona Wildcats just gave the Bearcats a 30-24 defeat that is going to frustrate more than just a few Cincinnati football fans.
At home, in Nippert Stadium, the Bearcats were unable to secure a win against an Arizona Wildcats team that has been a bit sporadic at times throughout the season.
Things started off just fine for Cincinnati in this game as the Bearcats claimed a 14-7 first quarter lead over Arizona, but the Wildcats were able to force a few errors from Brendan Sorsby and took advantage of every opportunity to come back and win by six points.
Now, the Bearcats will need to find a way to shock some teams if they’re going to crawl into the Big 12 championship game this season.
Big 12 standings, Week 12: Arizona Wildcats truly shock Cincinnati Bearcats while on the road
Let’s take a look at the updated Big 12 standings with Arizona’s win over Cincinnati:
- Texas Tech Red Raiders (9-1 overall, 6-1 Big 12)
- BYU Cougars (8-1 overall, 5-1 Big 12)
- Houston Cougars (8-2 overall, 5-2 big 12)
- Cincinnati Bearcats (7-3 overall, 5-2 Big 12)
- Utah Utes (7-2 overall, 4-2 Big 12)
- Arizona State Sun Devils (6-3 overall, 4-2 Big 12)
- Kansas State Wildcats (5-5 overall, 4-3 Big 12)
- Arizona Wildcats (7-3 overall, 4-3 Big 12)
- TCU Horned Frogs (6-3 overall, 3-3 Big 12)
- Baylor Bears (5-4 overall, 3-3 Big 12)
- Iowa State Cyclones (6-4 overall, 3-4 Big 12)
- Kansas Jayhawks (5-5 overall, 3-4 Big 12)
- West Virginia Mountaineers (4-6 overall, 2-5 Big 12)
- UCF Knights (4-5 overall, 1-5 Big 12)
- Colorado Buffaloes (3-7 overall, 1-6 Big 12)
- Oklahoma State Cowboys (1-9 overall, 0-7 Big 12)
It looks like (at least for right now) that the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the BYU Cougars will get a chance to have a rematch in Arlington for a shot at the Big 12 championship and also a trip to the College Football Playoff this season. As long as Texas Tech keeps winning out, I don’t have a problem with that happening at all. I think that can be exciting to watch.
