Well, the BYU Cougars are heading on to the Big 12 championship game, which I’m sure a bunch of folks up in Utah are thrilled about. Meanwhile, over in Orlando, Scott Frost and the UCF Knights are going to miss out on making it to a bowl game this season.

That’s because on Saturday the Cougars managed to take care of business and thrashed UCF to the tune of 41-21 as the final score.

Now, we do need to note that BYU got off to a really sluggish start while the Knights had no issues putting a few points on the board early on. UCF jumped out to a 14-0 lead and ran with that lead into the second quarter, but BYU responded by outscoring the Knights 38-7 in the second and third quarters combined.

And while that was more than enough for the Cougars to walk away with an incredibly lopsided win over the Knights ahead of BYU’s trip to Arlington for the Big 12 championship game, BYU did put a field goal through in the fourth quarter to help add just a little extra to this win.

Big 12 football standings, week 14: After a slow start, the BYU Cougars crushed the UCF Knights

With BYU coming out on top of this one, here’s what the standings look like following the Cougars’ 20-point victory against UCF.

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders (11-1 overall, 8-1 Big 12)
  • BYU Cougars (11-1 overall, 8-1 Big 12)
  • Utah Utes (10-2 overall, 7-2 Big 12)
  • Arizona Wildcats (9-3 overall, 6-3 Big 12)
  • Arizona State Sun Devils (8-4 overall, 6-3 Big 12)
  • Houston Cougars (8-3 overall, 5-3 big 12)
  • Cincinnati Bearcats (7-4 overall, 5-3 Big 12)
  • Iowa State Cyclones (7-4 overall, 4-4 Big 12)
  • Kansas State Wildcats (5-6 overall, 4-4 Big 12)
  • TCU Horned Frogs (7-4 overall, 4-4 Big 12)
  • Baylor Bears (5-6 overall, 3-5 Big 12)
  • Kansas Jayhawks (5-7 overall, 3-6 Big 12)
  • UCF Knights (5-7 overall, 2-7 Big 12)
  • West Virginia Mountaineers (4-8 overall, 2-7 Big 12)
  • Colorado Buffaloes (3-8 overall, 1-7 Big 12)
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys (1-10 overall, 0-8 Big 12)

For UCF fans who were hopeful about the second iteration of the Scott Frost era in Orlando and the way this season started, this has to sting a bit. This season didn’t go anywhere near what UCF fans were likely hopeful for. Now they just need to hope that the offseason goes in their favor and that they’ll be ready to compete in the Big 12 a bit better next season.
