There’s absolutely no way for the Kansas Jayhawks to have a winning season at this point. And really, there’s not a path to a bowl game for the Kansas football team either. The Jayhawks suffered a 10-point loss to the Utah Utes in a sloppy game that they probably could have (and depending on who you ask, maybe they should have) been able to get a win in.

Instead, they lost. They’ve now lost seven games this season. They’re not going to be bowl eligible unless something happens with regards to there being more bowl game openings than bowl eligible teams.

As for the Utah Utes? Well, they’re now 10-2 on the season and sitting just outside of the College Football Playoff field. They’ve been great throughout the season (minus a few moments) and it’s really impressive to see another 10-win season in Salt Lake City.

Big 12 football standings, week 14: Utah’s fourth quarter surge allows Utes to get to 10 wins in 2025

Here’s what the Big 12 standings look like following Utah’s road win over the Jayhawks:

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders (10-1 overall, 7-1 Big 12)
  • BYU Cougars (10-1 overall, 7-1 Big 12)
  • Utah Utes (10-2 overall, 7-2 Big 12)
  • Arizona State Sun Devils (8-3 overall, 6-2 Big 12)
  • Arizona Wildcats (8-3 overall, 5-3 Big 12)
  • Houston Cougars (8-3 overall, 5-3 big 12)
  • Cincinnati Bearcats (7-4 overall, 5-3 Big 12)
  • Iowa State Cyclones (7-4 overall, 4-4 Big 12)
  • Kansas State Wildcats (5-6 overall, 4-4 Big 12)
  • TCU Horned Frogs (7-4 overall, 4-4 Big 12)
  • Baylor Bears (5-6 overall, 3-5 Big 12)
  • Kansas Jayhawks (5-7 overall, 3-6 Big 12)
  • UCF Knights (5-6 overall, 2-6 Big 12)
  • West Virginia Mountaineers (4-7 overall, 2-6 Big 12)
  • Colorado Buffaloes (3-8 overall, 1-7 Big 12)
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys (1-10 overall, 0-7 Big 12)

There’s no way that, back in August, that’s where Kansas fans expected the Jayhawks to be this season. No way. With the pieces they had on offense, it seemed like Kansas would be looking at eight wins or so as a realistic sort of goal. Now they won’t have a chance to go bowling unless something bizarre happens.

As for Utah, the Utes still (technically) have a shot at getting into the College Football Playoff. The Utes won’t be making it into the Big 12 championship game as the Red Raiders and BYU Cougars have secured their spots there, but Utah’s season has been really impressive.
