It wasn’t that long ago that the Texas Tech Lady Raiders suffered their first loss of the season. Unfortunately for the Texas Tech women’s basketball team (and their fans), the Lady Raiders were given another loss.
This time by the BYU Cougars while on the road in Provo, Utah.
The game was sloppy and the Lady Raiders just played some bad basketball against BYU. And now, following this and the frustrating mess of a loss at home against the Kansas State Wildcats, the Texas Tech Women’s basketball team has a couple of losses.
Both of them are also clearly very frustrating for Texas Tech basketball fans to experience.
Big 12 women’s basketball standings: Here’s where the Texas Tech Lady Raiders sit after losing to the BYU Cougars in Provo
Here’s what the full Big 12 women’s basketball standings look like with the BYU Cougars giving the Texas Tech Lady Raiders their second loss of the season:
- Baylor Bears (18-3 overall, 7-1 Big 12)
- TCU Horned Frogs (18-2 overall, 6-1 Big 12)
- Texas Tech Lady Raiders (19-2 overall, 6-2 Big 12)
- West Virginia Mountaineers (16-4 overall, 6-2 Big 12)
- Oklahoma State Cowgirls (16-4 overall, 5-2 Big 12)
- Utah Utes (14-5 overall, 5-2 Big 12)
- Arizona State Sun Devils (17-3 overall, 4-3 Big 12)
- BYU Cougars (15-4 overall, 4-3 Big 12)

- UCF Knights (10-9 overall, 2-6 Big 12)
- Cincinnati Bearcats (7-13 overall, 2-6 Big 12)
- Arizona Wildcats (10-8 overall, 1-6 Big 12)
- Houston Cougars (6-13 overall, 0-8 Big 12)
Clearly, as you can see above, the Baylor Bears and the TCU Horned Frogs both benefitted considerably from Texas Tech’s recent stumbles against the Kansas State Wildcats and now the BYU Cougars. The Lady Raiders are now tied with the West Virginia Mountaineers for the 3rd place spot in the Big 12.
That’s not ideal. There’s still plenty of time for Texas Tech to get this sorted out. We’ve already seen the Lady Raiders get a road win against Baylor. But this losing streak has to stop soon. Otherwise, Texas Tech will slip some more in the Big 12.
