Texas Tech’s offense is going to get a lot of headlines over the next few days following the way the Red Raiders absolutely ran all over and through and around the visiting Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions in the 2025 season opener.

Saturday evening’s game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff paid off well for the Red Raiders. Truly, Texas Tech had no real issue in going and scoring points and putting the Golden Lions away early. And it wasn’t just that Behren Morton and the passing game were great or that the defense was magnificent.

The entirety of the Red Raiders team thrived in this matchup and that definitely includes a huge portion of Texas Tech’s rushing attack: Cameron Dickey.

In the first game of the season, Dickey did a great job of running the ball effectively and efficiently and doing so in a way that caused all sorts of headaches for the Golden Lions defense.

And folks, I sure enjoyed watching that.

Texas Tech running back Cameron Dickey thrived when facing the Arkansas-Pine Bluff defense

Dickey played a key role in Texas Tech’s rushing attack providing a pretty good compliment to Texas Tech’s passing game. And he was so dang efficient when he had the ball. Throughout the game, Dickey had 90 rushing yards on just 12 carries, which averages out to 7.5 yards per attempt.

I know this wasn’t a Big 12 defense (or any other sort of above average defense). But that’s still good. And while this is almost certainly the easiest defense on the Texas Tech football schedule, it feels like the Red Raiders have a Big 12-ready running back.

Dickey was able to break off long runs and also proved he could provide a bit of power in short-yardage situations, like his two-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Dickey is almost certainly going to play a rather significant role in Texas Tech’s offense this season and it was good to see him showcase his potential to get the season started.
