Can Texas Tech snap Arizona State’s weird winning streak of beating Texas CFB teams?

When Kenny Dillingham and the Arizona State Sun Devils were able to secure a three-point win over Sonny Dykes and the TCU Horned Frogs, we got to see the Sun Devils snag their third consecutive win over a team from the Lone Star State.

Yeah, it’s weird, and I don’t think it’s the most consequential stat ever, but it’s something worth talking about. Maybe not in the most serious way ever, but it’s definitely something worth exploring a bit.

In back-to-back-to-back games, the Sun Devils have managed to beat a team from Texas. And though Arizona State won’t face off against a team from Texas in their next matchup, Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders are the next Texas-based team on the schedule for the Sun Devils.

Will Texas Tech be able to snap Arizona State’s streak of beating college football teams from Texas?

This three-game winning streak over teams from Texas for Arizona State got started not long after the Sun Devils returned home from losing to Jeff Lebby and the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Starkville. Arizona State bounced back from that loss to the Bulldogs with a 34-15 win over GJ Kinne and the Texas State Bobcats.

After that, Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears got to match up with Dillingham and the Sun Devils in Waco and Arizona State was able to get a win there as well, beating Baylor in their own stadium by three points on a last second field goal. 27-24.

Which, you know, identical score to what we saw against Dykes and the Horned Frogs out in Tempe.

So, three games. Three teams from Texas. Three wins for Kenny Dillingham and the Sun Devils. And while Arizona State’s next game will be against the Utah Utes, October 18 is closer than a lot of people think and that’s when the Sun Devils get to host the Red Raiders.

That’ll be the Sun Devils’ next chance to get a win over a team from Texas. Then, a week later, Arizona State will host Houston.

I, for one, would appreciate it if this weird winning streak against college football teams from Texas came to a conclusion as the Texas Tech Red Raiders travelled to Tempe. That’s when it’d be best to come to an end. No need to wait for when Houston travels out west.
