As Krista Gerlich and the No. 21 Texas Tech Lady Raiders meet up with the No. 12 TCU Horned Frogs on Sunday afternoon, we’re about to find out if Texas Tech can find a way to address one of its biggest issues in an absolute hurry.
It seems a little silly to say that the rebounding battle between the Lady Raiders and the TCU Horned Frogs might be what ultimately what decides this matchup between ranked Big 12 women’s basketball teams, but after seeing how much Texas Tech struggled in the paint and to grab rebounds against the likes of the Iowa State Cyclones, I’m a little concerned here!
Texas Tech really had issues going out and competing with Iowa State’s front court and now the Lady Raiders are going to try to beat a high scoring team that is at the top of the Big 12. No pressure or anything.
So, how will the Lady Raiders handle things from a rebounding perspective?
Can the No. 21 Texas Tech Lady Raiders resolve their rebounding problems when facing the No. 12 TCU Horned Frogs in Lubbock?
I’m legitimately concerned that the rebounding issues will continue to loom large for the Lady Raiders in this matchup with TCU. Truly, I think this is an area that multiple teams have found ways to exploit and talented juggernauts like the Horned Frogs might be able to build off that formula.
TCU is currently grabbing 42 rebounds per game. That’s not just near the top in the Big 12, that’s the very best the conference has to offer right now. Meanwhile, Texas Tech averages just 36.4 rebounds per game, which ranks at No.12 in the conference.
TCU hasn’t been as dominant on the boards in Big 12 play as the Horned Frogs are grabbing just 36.7 rebounds per game against Big 12 teams, but the Lady Raiders aren’t any better here as they’re getting just 32.7 rebounds per game in Big 12 matchups. This is potentially a huge problem for the Lady Raiders.
