Right now, Grant McCasland’s Texas Tech Red Raiders are rolling. The Red Raider men’s basketball team has found a way to win its last five games and it looks like Texas Tech is capable of building the momentum it needs to have a stellar season.
At 16-4 overall and 6-1 against Big 12 teams so far this season, the Red Raiders have a ton of potential and should be aiming for championships this year. But there are a few hurdles that Texas Tech will have to get past along the way.
The next hurdle for the Red Raiders?
The UCF Knights, who will welcome the Texas Tech men’s basketball team to Orlando on Saturday. Unfortunately for Texas Tech (and weirdly enough), the Red Raiders haven’t been able to beat UCF in Orlando. And also, weirdly enough, Texas Tech hasn't been able to beat UCF in the past two meetings between the Red Raiders and the Knights.
Texas Tech has lost its last two meetings with the UCF Knights, can the Red Raiders get a win in Orlando on Saturday?
It’s not like there’s an extensive history or longstanding rivalry between the UCF Knights and the Texas Tech men’s basketball team, but it is clear that the Knights have posed a little bit of a problem for the Red Raiders in recent history.
In the three times that the two teams have met, UCF has been able to get two wins. And those are in the most recent times that the Red Raiders and Knights have faced off as well. Texas Tech got the first win in the series in Lubbock in February 2024 by a score of 66-59, but the Red Raiders haven’t won against UCF since then.
The Knights beat Texas Tech 75-61 in Orlando on February 24, 2024 and then followed that up by beating the Red Raiders 87-83 in December 2024.
Texas Tech is due for a win over the Knights. There’s a ton of talent all over the court for the Red Raiders. Will they be able to come out on top of this matchup in Orlando?
