It’s early. Super Early in the season. We haven’t even seen a full week of action just yet (Week 0 happened, yes, and we should celebrate that while also acknowledging that there were just five games that happened).
With Week 1 here and more college football games to be played sooner rather than later, now feels like a great time to take a look at some postseason projections. Because why not? Why wouldn’t we want to see how things look for the Big 12 this postseason as we’re right in the middle of the week leading up to Week 1?
College football is a fun sport and we can and should enjoy every single moment along the way and postseason projections kind of take us out of that a little bit but we can still enjoy how chaotic and fun the sport is along the way.
Here’s how CBS Sports is projecting the postseason for the Big 12 ahead of Week 1:

Yeah, look, numbers and naming conventions don’t line up anymore. It hurts my brain but that just is what it is.

- Arizona State Sun Devils - Alamo Bowl vs. BYU Cougars
- Utah Utes - Independence Bowl vs. Tulane Green Wave
- TCU Horned Frogs - Texas Bowl vs. Texas A&M Aggies
- Iowa State Cyclones - Pop-Tarts Bowl vs. SMU Mustangs
- Oklahoma State Cowboys - First Responder Bowl vs. California Golden Bears

This slate of bowl projections is interesting to me. And we’re not going to talk about the Red Raiders sitting in the College Football Playoff against Miami in this one. Let’s talk about the rest of the Big 12 for a moment.
I love seeing Arizona State (representing the old Pac-12 bowl connections) and BYU meeting up in the Alamo Bowl. That seems like a fun time to me. Utah taking on Tulane in Shreveport would be interesting to see. I’d be fascinated to see the sort of matchup that would result from Baylor and the Bears’ fun offense matching up with Iowa.
Oh! That TCU vs. Texas A&M Texas Bowl! That would be fascinating to watch. For the folks that could make it to that game in Houston, it’d absolutely have an electric atmosphere. That’d be something I’d love to see happen.
