It’s going to be fascinating to see what sort of ceiling is on this Texas Tech men’s basketball team this season. The No. 15 Red Raiders, while hosting the No. 11 BYU Cougars over the weekend, were able to completely and totally take control of the game down the stretch all while not getting any scoring from their bench.
And Christian Anderson’s excellence is a huge reason for that sort of late game success for the Red Raiders. Of all the great moments that Anderson had for Texas Tech against BYU, it’s what he accomplished in the second half that really meant the most for the Red Raiders.
Because Anderson had such an excellent and dominant second half. He was borderline unstoppable for Texas Tech in this matchup against one of the best teams in the Big 12.
Christian Anderson produced what the No. 15 Texas Tech Red Raiders needed when facing the No. 11 BYU Cougars
Anderson was solid in the first half. Much like LeJuan Watts, Anderson was producing in the first half. But it wasn’t the sort of control and dominance that we saw from him in the second half. Early on in the game, Anderson was able to knock down a couple of threes and kept the offense rolling along.
By halftime, Anderson had eight points on 3-of-9 shooting from the field and 2-of-6 from deep. He also managed to snag two rebounds and get a couple of assists.
That’s not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but things were considerably better in the second half though.
Anderson was able to completely move the offense around effortlessly. Time and time again, he was able to move the ball effectively and as a result Anderson recorded five assists in the second half alone. Along with that, he managed to be much more efficient shooting as he scored 14 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field and 2-of-4 from three point range.
Add in a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line and you’ve got a pretty impressive statline. In total, Anderson scored 22 points, grabbed four rebounds, and dealt out seven assists. Again, so much of that came in the second half.
