Thanks to an infusion of oil money, the Texas Tech Red Raiders have been able to go out and overhaul aspects of their roster so that they can elevate the level at which they compete. And so far, Texas Tech’s transfer portal haul has paid off pretty well.

I mean, we haven’t gotten to actual games yet, but it’s helped the Red Raiders get noticed on a national level in a way that wasn’t happening prior. We’ll see what happens when Texas Tech takes the field and gets to compete in actual games against actual teams.

Anyways, it’s interesting. The Red Raiders very quickly became one of the biggest spenders in college football and have very quickly gotten an interesting reputation as a team that is willing to go out and pour a bunch of money into its recruiting efforts.

So far, it doesn’t look like a lot of college football fans know how to handle that information or what to do with it.

College football fans flabbergasted by report that Texas Tech ranks No. 2 for roster spend

And here’s how college football fans are reacting to the way the Red Raiders are pouring money into their roster:

Some folks are generally supportive of the Red Raiders for doing this!

And some folks just don’t understand how much oil money there is out in West Texas.

Texas Tech fans are obviously enjoying this moment.

And of course, there were people who decided to take a shot at another team in the Lone Star State. Which, you know, I think there are quite a few people who can get on board with cracking jokes about the Longhorns.

It’ll be interesting to see what the long-term effects of this are for the Red Raiders (and for any other non-blue blood program who jumpstarts its roster and ability to win with a bunch of money pouring in). Texas Tech is probably just the best case study in this right now.
