The Texas Tech Red Raiders are one of the most intriguing teams in college football right now and it’s largely because there’s a ton of recruiting success happening out in Lubbock. Most recently, the Red Raiders were able to get 5-star offensive lineman Felix Ojo out of Mansfield, Texas to commit to play for Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders.

That’s huge. Ojo chose Texas Tech over just about everyone in the country. We’re talking about one of the most talented recruits in the 2026 recruiting cycle picking the Red Raiders when he had offers from just about anyone and everyone.

That includes the Texas Longhorns, Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Aggies, USC Trojans, Washington Huskies, Oregon Ducks, Oklahoma Sooners, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and a number of other programs.

That’s a big deal for Texas Tech. Unsurprisingly, it’s not exactly making a ton of folks who happen to like other schools all that happy right now.

College football fans react after Joey McGuire added 2026 5-star Felix Ojo to Texas Tech recruiting class

Folks sure don’t seem happy for the Red Raiders right now. Can’t imagine why they might have strong feelings on the matter.

At the moment, it looks like Ojo is headed to Lubbock instead of somewhere else. That’s good for Texas Tech and McGuire and less good for other teams and their head coaches. Maybe that’s why? I don’t know.

I mean, it sure seems like a good thing that a talented offensive lineman would want to play for the Red Raiders. Is that a fair statement to make?

If McGuire can keep this sort of recruiting success up and he can continue to add highly rated prospects to the 2026 Texas Tech recruiting class, there’s no way this is the last time we’re talking about folks being annoyed by the Red Raiders.

And if McGuire can happen to pair recruiting success with actual, on the field wins this coming football season, then we’ll be talking about people on social media being actively annoyed by the Red Raiders for multiple reasons.
