We’re closing in on the Orange Bowl. The next Texas Tech football game is less than 24 hours away and the Red Raiders are getting set for what will certainly be the most challenging game of the season up to this point as they meet up with the Oregon Ducks.
That means we get one more pregame press conference that featured the head coaches of both of these programs.
It’s no secret that Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Joey McGuire is impressed with the way that Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning has developed his team and established his program. McGuire has made that clear on multiple occasions (including this press conference).
Apparently, the head coach of the Ducks is also pretty impressed with Texas Tech and has shared his respect (and the respect that his players apparently have) for the Red Raiders during that recent press conference featuring Lanning and McGuire ahead of the Orange Bowl between Oregon and Texas Tech.
Oregon head coach Dan Lanning shares respect that the Ducks have for Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders
“Obviously Texas Tech has an unbelievable team,” Lanning said. “He’s right, when you watch it, something we’ve talked about since we arrived here is our ability to create explosive plays and eliminate explosive plays. When you look at both these teams, they’re two of the best in the nation in doing that.”
It really sounds like this game could be evenly matched. Or at least there’s a really strong possibility of that. Both Texas Tech and Oregon have thrived throughout the season and are statistically some of the most impressive teams in the country.
“Our players have prepped really hard and there’s a ton of respect for Texas Tech and what they’ve been able to create this year,” Lanning continued. “The way they play, I think that’s a true indication of the way Coach McGuire coaches. Our guys are really excited about this opportunity to share a field and it’s an awesome venue to get to be a part of.”
The Ducks and the Red Raiders will kick off around 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 1, 2026. We’ll soon find out just how evenly matched these two teams actually are.
