Darrion Williams has hilarious response to social media post of Texas A&M fan

Based on a recent social media interaction with a Texas A&M fan, it appears that Texas Tech transfer forward Darrion Williams isn't too high on the Aggies.

While every Texas Tech basketball fan continues to wait to find out where forward Darrion Williams will play next season, it appears that we can rule out one destination. This week, Williams had a hilarious interaction with a fan from Texas A&M that seemed to show he has no interest in becoming an Aggie.

On Thursday, a fan reached out to Williams on Instagram, encouraging the 2025 first-team All-Big 12 selection to consider transferring to Texas A&M.

The fan wrote, "@darrionwilliams5 College Station would take good care of you. There's no atmosphere or program like Texas A&M in the country."

Williams replied to that post in the most simple and glorious way possible. He simply posted a thumbs-down emoji.

Of course, we can take that emoji at face value as Williams' way of just showing that he didn't agree with the sentiment of the post. Or, we could take it a step further and believe that he chose that specific emoji as a way to take a dig at Texas A&M, a school that uses the thumbs-up gesture as its unofficial hand sign, similar to how Texas Tech uses the "Guns Up" hand sign.

Either way, Texas Tech fans seemed to enjoy the fact that Williams has no interest in transferring to Texas A&M. While there are plenty of reasons to doubt that the senior-to-be comes back to Lubbock for the 2025-26 season, at least we know he won't be playing for a school that is still the most despised in-state university for many Texas Tech fans, even over a decade after the Aggies left the Big 12.

Williams likely doesn't harbor the type of hatred for A&M that many Texas Tech fans do. He never experienced life as a Red Raider in an era when the two universities were conference foes.

To Williams and Red Raiders of his generation, the feud between Texas Tech and Texas A&M is almost as mythical as are stories about the siege of the Alamo. Though generations of Red Raiders have vivid memories about dramatic encounters with the Aggies, to today's college students, those tales are simply legends passed down from old timers.

What's more, Williams didn't grow up in Texas. A native of California, he likely hasn't spent much time around many Aggies in his life. Therefore, he probably doesn't hold as much vitriol toward that institution as older Tech alums do.

Rather, Williams likely isn't interested in A&M because it is not a premier basketball program. Though the Aggies did reach the second round of this year's NCAA Tournament, they have never been to the Elite Eight, something that Texas Tech has done three times since 2018.

Also, A&M is in a state of flux right now as they transition to a new coaching staff after the departure of Buzz Williams, who left College Station to take the head coaching job at Maryland. Therefore, A&M might take a step back next season as new head coach Bucky McMillan tries to reshape that program in his image.

Of course, Texas Tech fans never actually feared that Williams would consider playing for Texas A&M. Rather, the concern is that he will drop out of the NBA Draft and play for Big 12 rival BYU, as some are reporting. Still, to see him completely shut down an Aggie fan in such a definitive way was one of the more entertaining moments of the week for Red Raider fans.
