One of the first things that David Bailey did after getting picked second in the 2026 NFL Draft is something that I deeply appreciate. Expressions of gratitude and sharing in appreciation for when things go incredibly well is a good practice to work into life. And that’s something that Bailey did with Texas Tech fans right after the remarkably talented pass rusher was chosen with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Bailey took a break from celebrating being the No. 2 pick in the draft to turn his attention back to Lubbock and back to Texas Tech football fans. And he made sure to speak directly to the Red Raider fans that embraced him while he played in West Texas and helped elevate the ceiling for the Texas Tech football program.

“Red Raider fans, I couldn’t have done it without y’all,” Bailey said in a video following his selection in the 2026 NFL Draft. “Man, I appreciate the support this year (or this past year) and I’m looking forward to watching y’all dominate. Thank you again. Wreck’Em.”

It’s interesting to me (and also really enjoyable to me) to see Bailey credit the folks who love and have supported Bailey and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. This message wasn’t just to his coaches and teammates and the boosters. This was to the folks who showed up and helped sell out Jones AT&T Stadium throughout the season.

Also, it’s clear that Bailey believes that the Red Raiders will continue to thrive as they move forward. That “looking forward to watching y’all dominate” line makes it clear that he’s convinced that Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders are moving in the right direction right now.
