Can we just take a moment to appreciate what Donovan Atwell just did to the Iowa State Cyclones? Just, you know, everyone please pause and look at the stat sheet for a second and notice that the Red Raiders were led by a guy who could not be stopped when taking shots from behind the three point line?

Iowa State had no answer for Atwell at all. None whatsoever. As Texas Tech went into Hilton Coliseum to face off against the Iowa State Cyclones, Atwell managed to torch Iowa State’s usually impressive defense.

And he did it all from behind the three point line. He literally didn’t make a single shot unless it was from behind the arc. Atwell went out, shot 6-of-10 from the three point line, and put up 18 points to help lead the No. 16 Texas Tech Red Raiders to arguably their most impressive win of the season so far.

Donovan Atwell’s dominant 3-point shooting torched No. 4 Iowa State’s perimeter defense as No. 16 Texas Tech won 82-73

We already knew that Atwell was a frighteningly good shooter from deep, he owns the Texas Tech single season three point shooting record and passed that a little while back. I mean, he passed that with ease. The record was 94 made threes in a single season. Atwell is now at 110 on the season (and there’s still games to be played).

And again, he made 6-of-10 from behind the three point line. 60 percent shooting from deep in this game. Typically, prior to this game, Iowa State allows teams to make 7.5 threes in a game while shooting at a rate of 31.8 percent from deep.

Atwell was the leader for a Texas Tech team that went 14-of-29 from three point range against Iowa State. And that’s such an incredible thing to be able to look at. If Atwell can do this in this environment against a team like that, then Texas Tech has a great leader who can continue to set the Red Raiders up for success down the stretch.
