Early season bowl projections are a fun thing. Truly fun. A handful of games have been played, yes, but there’s really no true discernible, clear picture of what this season will look like just yet. We really don’t know how everything is going to shake out just yet.

What we do know is that Kansas State lost to Iowa State over in Ireland. And that will likely shape the way the Big 12 championship race eventually plays out. And it might just give Texas Tech an even better shot of making it to the conference championship game and then ultimately the College Football Playoff.

Now, it’s worth noting that CBS Sports put together this round of College Football Bowl Projections prior to the actual unfolding of that Farmageddon game in Dublin. Still, it’s hard not to look at the results of that game and think about how it positions the Red Raiders well to actually make it into the playoff as the No. 9 seed, as projected by CBS Sports.

CBS Sports projects Texas Tech Red Raiders to make the 2025 College Football Playoff as No. 9 seed

What would a No. 9 seed placement give the Red Raiders? A fascinating matchup with the Miami Hurricanes out of the ACC. And I’m 100 percent on board for seeing how that hypothetical game would actually play out. 100 percent. I’d love to see it.

Here’s what these college football playoff projections look like:

  • Clemson Tigers vs TBD in Orange Bowl CFP quarterfinal
  • Penn State Nittany Lions vs. TBD in Rose Bowl CFP quarterfinal
  • Texas Longhorns vs. TBD in Sugar Bowl CFP quarterfinal
  • Ohio State Buckeyes vs. TBD in Cotton Bowl CFP quarterfinal
  • Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Boise State Broncos in CFP 1st Round - No. 6 vs. No. 11
  • Miami Hurricanes vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders in CFP 1st Round - No. 8 vs. No. 9
  • Oregon Ducks vs. Georgia Bulldogs in CFP 1st Round - No. 7 vs. No. 10
  • Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. LSU Tigers in CFP 1st Round - No. 5 vs. No. 12

That could be a lot of fun. I particularly love the hypothetical matchup of Oregon and Georgia. I need to see that sooner rather than later. I think that game would be an absolute thrill to watch.

The only other 1st round game that grabs my attention, aside from the Texas Tech matchup with Miami, is that Alabama game against Boise State. That’d have some fun storylines to watch for. I'm not too interested in seeing Notre Dame vs. LSU, but maybe that's just me? I don't know. There's something about that one that just doesn't grab my interest all that much right now.
