Well, it looks like the 2025 college football season might be a pretty fun one for Texas Tech football fans. It looks like that NIL-fueled transfer portal magic that Joey McGuire and his coaching staff were able to work in the offseason (shoutout to the boosters who helped make that possible for the Red Raiders) is paying off in a big way.

Texas Tech is off to a 4-0 start on the season and the Red Raiders managed to completely dismantle the Utah Utes defense in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s matchup in Salt Lake City.

That road win over Utah was a bit of a statement for McGuire and his program in many ways. Winning 34-10 over the then No. 16 Utah Utes made it clear that this Texas Tech team can play some pretty impressive defense, outlast one of the most physical defenses in the country on offense, and find a way to win even with a backup quarterback leading things.

And right now, the number crunching computers behind ESPN’s Football Power Index are pretty impressed with the Red Raiders.

ESPN’s Matchup Predictor has the Texas Tech Red Raiders favored in every single remaining game on the schedule

At the moment (and this is certainly subject to change) Texas Tech is currently favored to win in every single remaining game on its schedule, according to the ESPN FPI Matchup Predictor. Going through the schedule, for each game up ahead, Texas Tech has a greater chance of victory than each of its opponents remaining on the schedule.

That said, there are a couple of close calls and coin tosses up ahead. Texas Tech’s road game against Arizona State and the home matchup with BYU are both VERY, VERY close, according to ESPN’s FPI Matchup Predictor.

Here’s what that looks like right now, following the Red Raiders’ win over Utah:

  • Texas Tech at Houston - 71.3 percent
  • Texas Tech vs Kansas - 65.6 percent
  • Texas Tech at Arizona State - 56.4 percent
  • Texas Tech vs Oklahoma State - 96.1 percent
  • Texas Tech at Kansas State - 70.2 percent
  • Texas Tech vs BYU - 50.1 percent
  • Texas Tech vs UCF - 77.7 percent
  • Texas Tech at West Virginia - 81.9 percent

Again, this is subject to change (and it could change quite a bit). Crazy things happen in college football. But, right now, Texas Tech fans should certainly be feeling cautiously optimistic about just how good of a season this could be for Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders.
