I don’t think many (grounded, realistic) people are actually expecting the Texas Tech Red Raiders to fall short in week 2. I don’t suspect that many people really believe Joey McGuire’s Texas Tech football team won’t be able to win in Week 2.

Especially after the way the Red Raiders performed against Arkansas-Pine Bluff in Week 1! Winning by 60 points to start the season (and doing so in a way that makes it seem like your team could have won by 100 points) is impressive!

Texas Tech is going to be an overwhelming favorite when the Red Raiders welcome the Kent State Golden Flashes to Lubbock and it seems like the ESPN Analytics Matchup Predictor tool is all on board with the Red Raiders getting another win.

ESPN Analytics Matchup Predictor gives Texas Tech Red Raiders an incredible chance of beating Kent State in week 2

Right now, heading into this weekend, Texas Tech is being given a 98.2 percent chance of getting a win on Saturday. And to be completely honest, that actually seems a little low. Yes, Behren Morton got dinged up a bit against the Golden Lions, but the Red Raiders looked just as dominant on offense with backup quarterback Will Hammond playing.

So it’s not like you can just flat out say Morton’s potential injury would be enough to give Kent State all that much of a chance at winning this game.

Top to bottom, all across the field, the Red Raiders just simply boast a significantly more talented roster than what the Golden Flashes will be bringing with them to Jones AT&T Stadium. And that should be plenty enough reason to expect a win when these two teams match up.

But when you add in that Morton might also be healthy enough to play against Kent State (I wish he wouldn’t, I would like for him to stay healthy this season, please), then this game isn’t going to be one worth worrying about. I don’t suspect Texas Tech will have a trap game here.
