If you didn’t stay up late to watch the Utah Utes steamroll right over the Colorado Buffaloes, you didn’t miss all that much. Utah was far better than Colorado in just about everything the Buffaloes wanted to do and thus, the Utes won by literally as many points as they could have possibly wanted to.
This is a game that Kyle Whittingham really decided to hit the brakes on. He could have had Utah continue to pour points onto the scoreboard. He could have decided to put 100 or more points up there. Instead, the head coach of the Utes decided to show a little bit of mercy and his team only managed to beat Colorado by a score of 53-7.
That feels like a lot. And it is a lot. But it’s also important to remember that this game was out of hand before the 1st quarter was even wrapped up. Utah found itself up 17-0 after 15 minutes and then scored another 26 points to go up 43-0 by the time that halftime rolled around.
Colorado didn’t get onto the board until there was a little over nine minutes left in the game. This game was fully and totally controlled by Utah.
What do Texas Tech fans need to know about Utah’s dominant home win over Colorado?
The more this season goes on, the better I feel about that 34-10 Texas Tech win against the Utes. And so far, Utah has lost just two games this season: that aforementioned 24-point loss to Texas Tech and then a 3-point loss against the BYU Cougars.
Colorado was held to just 140 total yards in this game. Meanwhile, the Utes offense went out and gained 587 yards. The Utes really got after Colorado’s quarterbacks while completely and totally dominating up front in the process. Utah recorded seven sacks and then also had 13 tackles for loss.
They’re really good at football. Really good. And it’s clear that Utah at 6-2 overall and 3-2 in Big 12 games would appreciate it if teams ahead of them in the Big 12 standings would suffer a loss here or there.
