Though most Texas Tech football fans are focusing on the stretch run to the 2026 season, there is always time to look toward the future. The Red Raiders are always hard at work on the recruiting trail, and last weekend the program hosted a number of high-profile targets who witnessed the Red Raiders' 34-26 win over Arizona.
One top recruit who was in Lubbock last weekend was defensive lineman RJ Wyms from The Woodlands, Texas. Now, Rivals.com national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman has logged an expert prediction for the Red Raiders to earn a commitment from the 4-star recruit.
According to Rivals.com, Wyms is the No. 46 overall player and the No. 6 player in Texas in the class of 2028. Meanwhile, 247Sports rates Wyms as the No. 36 overall player in the nation. Either way, he is truly one of America's top players.

The 6-foot-1, 265-pounder has held an offer from Tech since September of 2025. He also has offers from the likes of Michigan, Nebraska, Tennessee, Mississippi State, UCLA, Notre Dame, Washington, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Houston, Kansas, Arizona, Arizona State, LSU, and others.
Wyms stats from this season are tough to find. But as a sophomore a season ago, he racked up 49 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, 6 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery for a touchdown.
If Texas Tech is able to land Wyms, he will be the third player added to the 2028 class. More importantly, he would be the second elite player in the trenches.
Already committed to Tech is 2028 prospect Austin Attalah, a 4-star offensive tackle from Southern California. He's rated the No. 107 player in the nation and the No. 11 offensive tackle.
Also in Tech's 2028 class is punter Luc Normand from Houston. Now, the hope is that Tech can find a way to bring Wyms into the family. If that happens, the Red Raiders will be off to a fantastic start in the class of 2028 as they continue to prioritize the line of scrimmage on the recruiting trail.
