Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders have been recruiting rather well in recent months. This offseason, the Red Raiders are truly thriving in picking up commitments from high profile players (both in this specific recruiting cycle and also one of the most impressive players in the state of Georgia for the 2027 recruiting class.
And because the Red Raiders are very suddenly recruiting at such a high level, there are people who are very suddenly paying a lot of attention towards what’s happening out in Lubbock with the Red Raiders. Some folks are fascinated, others are frustrated.
And then there are some folks who happen to love a former Big 12 team who are now taking to sharing some rather interesting takes online.
Going to #TexasTech is taking the easy way out. A real man would go to #Oklahoma! pic.twitter.com/jSi6fCweCq

Which, you know, that’s certainly a take!
Texas Tech fans laugh at ridiculous claim from Oklahoma Sooners message board post
You saw that ridiculous post. Now here’s how people are reacting.
What has become of OU. It’s getting sad

You wanna know what’s wild. Tech fans were saying this same thing like five years ago.

lucky them, they're gonna be swimming in 3 stars.

This is what Tech fans were saying for years 😂

It is wild the way things have changed in recent years for both of these programs. Texas Tech fans definitely understand what it’s like for their favorite team to pursue players who happen to be flying under the radar and could potentially develop into a highly productive star if they received the right coaching.
But it’s flat out a difficult thing to truly build a legitimately dangerous, championship-contending team with that formula.

Sometimes, all you can do is laugh.
We may have actually broken fans of college recruitment.

And yeah, there are folks out there that primarily keep up with recruiting as something that means a lot to them in the world of college sports. It’s something that some people value in a pretty significant way. That might seem a little odd, but it’s what some folks really hold in a high regard.
I sometimes wonder how that particular group is evaluating (and viewing) the way things have changed for Texas Tech (and some of the other teams that are out there). And then there are other times where it doesn’t really matter to me and it’s just a great thing to see the Red Raiders thriving on the recruiting trail.
