Emotions were pretty high for both the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Florida Gators yesterday. The Texas Tech softball team managed to go out and run-rule the Florida Gators, eliminating them from the Gainesville Super Regional by way of a 16-7 beating in five innings.

As part of that, Texas Tech also clinched a spot in the 2026 Women’s College World Series and the Red Raiders were thrilled to celebrate. The Gators, on the other hand, didn’t really seem all that enthused or supportive of Texas Tech’s success. And as a result, Florida skipped the opportunity to congratulate Texas Tech via the traditional postgame handshakes.

Of course, Florida head coach Tim Walton had already been tossed from the game after a late inning ejection. So it’s not like he was going to be present to encourage his team to go through and shake hands with the team that just ended Florida’s season.

When asked about the whole situation during a postgame press conference, Gerry Glasco handled the question with the perfect amount of poise and a very brief answer

Glasco was asked by a reporter if he was caught off guard by the situation. Instead of immediately responding, Texas Tech’s head coach paused. He shrugged. He then took a moment to think it through. And then he laughed.

With a grin, he stated “I’m just proud of my team.”

No bitterness. No shot at Florida. Just five words and a smile and moving on in the press conference. Which is the absolute best possible way for Glasco to take control of that sort of situation.

Especially with the way people have been talking about this series. With the portal drama and a beef seemingly developing between these two softball programs, Glasco handled it with the perfect sort of perspective. Instead of dividing things further or making the story about Florida, he redirected it and focused on his team.
