Though he is no longer a member of the Texas Tech football program, Red Raider fans have been keeping a close eye on wide receiver Micah Hudson. That's because there has been rampant speculation that the former high school All-American and 5-star signee could be leaning toward coming back to Texas Tech after transferring to Texas A&M this offseason.

Though plenty would have to happen for there to be a reunion between Hudson and the Red Raiders, a key step in that potential outcome has taken place. It is been confirmed by Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko that Hudson has stepped away from day-to-day activities with the Aggie football program and will re-enter the transfer portal (according to On3 Sports' Pete Nakos).

The next time that NCAA football players can enter the transfer portal will be from April 10-25 of this year. That is when this chapter of the saga could finally come to an end.

The Hudson drama has been consuming Texas Tech fans since before he ever stepped foot on campus as an official student.

Throughout the 2024 recruiting cycle, Red Raiders who follow recruiting were dialed into Tech's pursuit of him. That's because he was the type of blue-chip prospect that this program has rarely had the chance to land.

Then, in September of 2023, Hudson gave his verbal commitment to Texas Tech after being in Lubbock to take in the home game against Oregon. That development sent a jolt through the Red Raider fan base.

In December of 2024, Hudson officially signed with Tech becoming the first 5-star high school prospect to ever sign with Tech directly out of high school. Thus, expectations for what he could become were through the roof.

Unfortunately, though, Hudson showed up to campus in the spring of 2024 injured (which was no surprise to the Texas Tech coaching staff). Therefore, he underwent a minor knee surgery that caused him to miss the entirety of that year's spring practice sessions.

So, when Hudson returned to full football activities in fall camp, he was not as advanced as he needed to be when it came to knowing the offensive scheme. Thus, he was unable to crack the starting wide receiver lineup.

As a backup, he was used only in five-wide packages or in mop-up duty. He appeared in eight games catching eight passes for 123 yards and no touchdowns.

However, a times, he did make some spectacular plays leading many fans to openly call for Hudson to get more playing time. That didn't happen, though. Then, a late-season injury caused him to miss several games.

After the season, Hudson entered the portal and he would eventually sign with Texas A&M. However, almost as soon as the 2025 spring semester began, it was announced that he had taken a leave of absence from the program.

That's when fans began to speculate that Hudson might return to Texas Tech. In fact, some have shared rumors online that he's spent time in Lubbock and been seen on the Tech campus in the weeks since. However, those rumors have not been confirmed.

While we don't know if Hudson will eventually come back to Texas Tech, we now know that his short time as an Aggie is over. So even if he doesn't rejoin the Red Raiders, it will be easier for Texas Tech fans to swallow any future success he has since it won't be in College Station.

Losing Hudson wasn't a big blow to Tech as it pertains to productivity on the football field. However, his departure was a bit of a perception issue for the program. To finally land a 5-star recruit only to see him leave after only one season was not a great look.

Now, though, this story could take another turn. Hudson appears to be looking at his options once again. Therefore, Texas Tech football fans will continue to watch how his saga plays out because it seems like there is at least a decent chance that he might not have played his last football for the Red Raiders.
