Yet another coach with Texas Tech ties has landed an offensive coordinator job with a power conference program. Former Red Raider quarterback Seth Doege has been named the new offensive coordinator for the Arizona Wildcats.

The 35-year-old native of San Angelo, Texas served as Marshall's offensive coordinator and QBs coach in 2024. This year, the Thundering Herd ranked just 71st in the nation in total offense at 382.8 yards per game, good for ninth in the Sun Belt Conference.

However, Marshall did have a terrific season going 10-3 overall and winning the Sun Belt Championship. Because of that success, Marshall head coach Charles Huff was able to take the head coaching job at Southern Mississippi leaving Doege's situation in limbo.

Prior to this year, Doege was the Purdue tight ends coach where he worked under another former Texas Tech QB, Graham Harrell, who was the Purdue O.C. for 2023 and part of 2024 before being fired mid-season by the Boilermakers. Doege also has had coaching stints at Southern California and Bowling Green as well as serving a season as an analyst for Ole Miss.

Of course, most Texas Tech fans remember Doege's playing days in Lubbock. He was on the roster from 2009-12 and he was the program's starting QB in 2011-12.

He led the Red Raiders to just a 5-7 record in 2011 but he did engineer an upset of No. 3 Oklahoma in Norman. The next season, Tech was 8-5 and won the Texas Bowl in Doege's senior campaign.

Despite tearing a ligament in each of his knees in high school over the course of back-to-back seasons, Doege rebounded to be one of the more underrated but productive Texas Tech quarterbacks in program history. He passed for 8,636 yards and 69 touchdowns to rank 4th in program history in both categories.

Now, he takes over an Arizona offense that struggled to meet expectations this fall. Despite having one of the best receivers in the nation, Tetairoa McMillan, and veteran QB Noah Fifita, Arizona finished the year just 97th nationally in yards per game at 354.5. Now, McMillian has declared his intention to enter NFL Draft next spring meaning Doege's job will be a lot more difficult.

Tech doesn't play the Wildcats until 2026 when Arizona comes to Lubbock. Thus, it is possible that the Red Raiders may never face Doege as an opposing offensive coordinator. However, Red Raider fans will be watching to see how this native son does in the Big 12 as he's being tasked with reviving the Wildcats' offense in Tucson.
