It looks like another former Texas Tech quarterback will be getting a shot at starting in the NFL this coming week. When the New Orleans Saints take on the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, November 2, former Texas Tech Red Raider Tyler Shough will draw the start.

And it really looks like the Saints could use some serious help. Right now, New Orleans is sitting at 4th in the NFC South and it’s not like the NFC South is that great this season (only one team is above .500 right now).

The Saints are 1-7 on the season. They are literally among the worst teams in the NFL at the moment. The New York Jets and Tennessee Titans are the only other 1-7 teams in the league and that’s not exactly the sort of company any NFL franchise is eager to keep.

New Orleans is also the second-worst team in the NFL when it comes to point differential as the Saints have been outscored by an average of 10.1 points per game.

So, yeah, doing literally anything to try to find some life is far from the worst thing that New Orleans could do right now.

New Orleans Saints set to start former Texas Tech quarterback Tyler Shough against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday

The Saints chose to draft Shough in the second round after a pretty lengthy and prolific college career. He got his college career started with the Oregon Ducks back in 2018.

After playing three seasons in Eugene, Shough then transferred to Texas Tech and played for the Red Raiders in 2021, a season in which he started four games and posted a 3-1 record by completing 69.6 percent of his passes for 872 yards and six touchdowns against three picks.

In 2022, Shough went 5-0 as the starter for the Red Raiders, completing 59.9 percent of his passes for 1304 yards and seven touchdowns against four picks. He also added 269 rushing yards and four rushing scores. In his final season with Texas Tech, in 2023, Shough went 1-3 as the starter, completed 60.4 percent of his passes for 746 yards and seven touchdowns vs. four interceptions while also running for two more touchdowns.

Shough did get one more college season after playing for the Red Raiders and wrapped up his career by playing for the Louisville Cardinals in 2024, where he went 8-4, threw for 3195 yards and 23 touchdowns. And now, at 26, he’s a rookie in the NFL set to start against the Rams.
