Kirby Smart is clearly one of the best coaches in the country (he’s won the SEC championship on four different occasions and he already has a couple of national championships under his belt) and it looks like he’s doing everything he possibly can to get the Georgia Bulldogs back in contention for another national title.
And the Bulldogs look really good right now!
After winning the SEC Championship to beat Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide (the only team that’s managed to beat Georgia so far this season), the Bulldogs secured an opening round bye in the College Football Playoff.
Now they’re looking to win a Sugar Bowl and beat the Ole Miss Rebels for the second time this season. Let’s get to know Georgia a little bit.
Everything Texas Tech Red Raider football fans need to know about the Georgia Bulldogs in the College Football Playoff
Here’s a few basics about the Bulldogs as we get set to watch Georgia compete in the College Football Playoff:
- Head coach: Kirby Smart
- Conference: SEC
- Location: Athens, Georgia
- Stadium: Sanford Stadium
- Record: 12-1 overall, 7-1 SEC
Kirby Smart and Georgia accomplished quite a bit this season and the Bulldogs got better as the season went on. And that’s impressive. Not only did Georgia go out and avenge its only loss on the season by beating the Alabama Crimson Tide, but the Bulldogs also went out and secured an SEC championship in the process.
This is a really impressive team that has a strong offense and a particularly impressive defense. The Bulldogs are holding opponents to fewer than 16 points per game and 284.5 yards per game. They’ve got one of the best run defenses in the nation.
While Texas Tech won’t be playing Georgia in the semifinals if both the Red Raiders and the Bulldogs win their quarterfinals matchups, it’s worth keeping an eye on what the Bulldogs are capable of. This is a team that Texas Tech could face if both teams make it to the national title game.
