Well, the North Carolina Tar Heels are in the market for a new head coach and they are apparently potentially interested in the services of one Mr. Grant McCasland, the current head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders

I, for one, would appreciate it if McCasland were to stick around in Lubbock for a little longer. I suspect that there are plenty of Texas Tech basketball fans who would like the same.

And while the Texas Tech job has certainly improved drastically to the point that competing at a very high level is expected in Lubbock these days, the Tar Heels might have the sort of coaching gig that is hard for any coach to turn down.

It’s worth noting that there’s no way McCasland is the only coach out there that the Tar Heels would want to talk to, but it’s interesting (not in a “this is good for Texas Tech fans” sort of way) that they’d like to talk to him.

Texas Tech head coach Grant McCasland’s name is reportedly on North Carolina’s list of head coaching candidates to look at

During his time in Lubbock, McCasland has managed to go 74-31 in a small handful of seasons. McCasland has managed to lead the Red Raiders to three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances and the Texas Tech men’s basketball team was just in the Elite Eight a season ago.

Had the Red Raiders not lost JT Toppin to a season-ending injury this year, there’s a good chance that they’d still be playing and trying to compete in the thick of things during the NCAA tournament right now. McCasland is a good coach and he’s done a great job of maximizing talent in Lubbock.

And it’s not just out in Lubbock that he’s been a successful head coach and program builder. The folks in Denton got to witness the sort of work that McCasland can do to elevate a program. Now let’s just hope that Texas Tech can keep McCasland building in Lubbock for the foreseeable future.
