This year’s edition of the Big 12 has been full of chaos and wins and losses and teams that were expected to be really impressive actually turning out to be wildly underwhelming and then even a few surprises at the top of the conference standings.
The chaos that this league experiences makes it one of my favorites. From top to bottom, there’s a good bit of chaos sprinkled all throughout. I have often told friends that this is America’s most chaotic college football conference. I have also told friends that it’s America’s most fun college football conference.
I also tend to enjoy the Sun Belt for similar reasons, but that’s not what we’re here to talk about. Right now, we’re here to talk about how coaching in the Big 12 can be stressful and also apparently a little delightful and enjoyable.
Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire noted in a press conference on Monday that it’s apparently the greatest thing in the world.
Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire notes that he enjoys the chaos that comes with the Big 12, even if it’s a little stressful
McGuire was recalling a conversation he recently had with his nephew when he noted that there was a pretty stressful element to it.
“I took a deep breath and said ‘man, these games are taking years off my life’,” McGuire joked.
And you know, he might be right! Texas Tech fans all over the country might agree with that one. This team is stressful and has been for years!
“But I would not want any other life,” McGuire continued. “Without a doubt, it’s the most, it’s the greatest thing in the world.”
And yeah, I don’t know if I’d call it the absolute greatest, but I imagine being a successful head coach in this conference could be a bit of an adrenaline rush and a ton of fun. I can get on board with that one. I appreciate that.
“That’s how it is every single week,” McGuire said of the Big 12’s competitive nature. “You better have your team prepared and you better understand there’s going to be highs in the game, there’s going to be lows in the game.”
