Texas Tech is known for having high scoring, incredibly fun offenses. For the better part of the past three decades, Texas Tech has scored plenty of points on numerous occasions. Over the years, Texas Tech football fans have seen a ton of stars from that side of the ball show up in Lubbock and have phenomenal careers with the Red Raiders.
And that could continue this year.
Of course, plenty of people are going to point at Behren Morton as someone who is primed to have another impressive year. Given that he’s returning and is now getting to work with Mack Leftwich as his offensive coordinator and then also the amount of talent around him, Morton will probably have a ton of fun this season.
But when Leftwich was asked to note three different players outside of Morton who could play key roles, it took him a minute.
Mack Leftwich carefully notes 3 Red Raiders who could have an impact on Texas Tech’s offense this season
Texas Tech’s offensive coordinator was asked to name three players who would play key roles for the Red Raiders this year. And that’s challenging to do.
“That’s hard to pinpoint three guys,” Leftwich explained. “I think maybe looking at returning guys, I think Caleb Douglas just being a big play guy on the edge.”
That seems fair. The talented receiver thrived as soon as he arrived in Lubbock last season and he’s got plenty of big play potential. Putting him in Mack Leftwich’s offense could certainly yield some truly special results for him.
“I think the duo at running back, between Cam Dickey and J’Koby Williams, those two guys are playing well,” Leftwich said.
Now, that’s two players right there, which already gets us to the total of three. However, Leftwich did say that it was hard to pinpoint just three players, so let’s cut him some slack here.
“Probably up front, Sheridan Wilson,” Leftwich said. “I think a guy, you know, just the center controls a lot of what we do in pass protection and in the run game where our IDs are.”
Okay, that’s four players. But we’ll take it. It gives us some pretty good insight into how the Red Raiders offense might shape up this season.
