It’s still pretty early on in the 2025 college football season, we’re essentially one third of the way through it, but one of the most intriguing (and also one of the most concerning) storylines of the 2025 Texas Tech football season seems to be the way Behren Morton plays for TTU and if he’s fully healthy.
Twice this season, assuming I’m counting correctly, Morton has been dinged up a bit. Once with his leg and then against Utah he was hit pretty hard in the head and subsequently sidelined. On both occasions, the Red Raiders were able to turn to backup quarterback Will Hammond and they carried on just fine, but I, for one, don’t love the idea of losing the starting quarterback.
That talent, experience, and depth certainly matters. And Morton is pretty dang good in this offense when he’s healthy and his offensive line can keep him upright.
As Texas Tech gets set for another road trip, the head coach of the Red Raiders got the chance to talk about Morton and his injuries and how he’s recovering.
Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire shares notable injury update on Red Raiders quarterback Behren Morton
“He looked great yesterday,” McGuire said of Morton’s recovery. “I got a video Friday morning, he was running around throwing with Mike Ramirez, our trainer, and they videoed, of course, him sliding. So it was good to see that.”
ABSOLUTELY IT IS!
I’m not trying to doubt how tough Morton is or anything of that nature, but I’d really like for the dude to protect his body from unnecessary hits from opposing linebackers. Slide, please. Avoid the damage. Don’t get hurt, please.
“He looked good yesterday, felt great,” McGuire explained. “He was a full participant in practice.”
Texas Tech’s head coach went on to explain that the Red Raiders quarterbacks weren’t getting hit in practice, which is an important clarification for what being a “full participant in practice” could mean.
