Unfortunately, after yet another loss, it looks like Tim Tadlock and the Texas Tech baseball team are in a pretty tough spot. Prior to their road series against the TCU Horned Frogs, Texas Tech was in a solid position to make things interesting in the Big 12.
That is no longer the case. Texas Tech has lost three straight thanks to that infuriating sweep at the hands of the TCU baseball team and the Red Raiders now have a 4-5 record when facing Big 12 teams.
That, plus the shuffling of the middle of the Big 12 that happened in large part due what happened across the conference, means that the Red Raiders are stuck in a logjam right now.
At the moment, Texas Tech is sitting in a four-way tie with that 4-5 Big 12 record. And there are a ton of Big 12 teams ahead of the Red Raiders right now.
Big 12 standings update: Texas Tech trapped in a logjam in the middle of the conference after 3 losses to TCU
Here’s what the Big 12 standings look like right now with the Red Raiders’ road series loss against the TCU Horned Frogs:
- UCF Knights (18-8 overall, 8-1 Big 12)
- West Virginia Mountaineers (19-5 overall, 7-2 Big 12)
- Kansas Jayhawks (18-10 overall, 6-3 Big 12)
- Arizona State Sun Devils (20-8 overall, 5-4 Big 12)
- TCU Horned Frogs (17-10 overall, 5-4 Big 12)
- Utah Utes (15-10 overall, 5-4 Big 12)
- Baylor Bears (16-11 overall, 5-4 Big 12)
- Cincinnati Bearcats (20-10 overall, 4-5 Big 12)
- Kansas State Wildcats (18-10 overall, 4-5 Big 12)
- Texas Tech Red Raiders (16-11 overall, 4-5 Big 12)
- BYU Cougars (13-13 overall, 4-5 Big 12)
- Oklahoma State Cowboys (17-11 overall, 3-6 Big 12)
- Arizona Wildcats (9-18 overall, 2-7 Big 12)
- Houston Cougars (13-14 overall, 1-8 Big 12)
It really feels like the UCF Knights and West Virginia Mountaineers have control of the Big 12 right now. They’re both looking so impressive so far this season. And then there’s the Jayhawks. Kansas also looks similarly impressive right now.
When you look around the group right after that top tier, there’s a logjam. And then there’s a logjam of teams after that first logjam. Unfortunately, that’s where we find Tadlock and the Red Raiders.
