I think it’s safe to say that Gerry Glasco and the Texas Tech Red Raiders are in a pretty good spot this season. I mean, we’re talking about a legitimate national title contending sort of team right now. Up to this point, Texas Tech has only lost a couple of games and the Red Raiders are managing to beat up on most of their opponents.

Such was the case Friday evening as Glasco and the Texas Tech softball team hosted the Iowa State Cyclones and then subsequently shut down the first game of the series. And with the 9-1 run-rule win over the Iowa State Cyclones, Texas Tech’s standing in the Big 12 conference is just a little further away from the rest of the conference.

Big 12 softball standing - March 27, 2026: Here’s just how far Texas Tech is from the rest of the conference following 9-1 win vs Iowa State

Here’s what the Big 12 looks like right now after the Red Raiders beat the Iowa State Cyclones (you can expect Texas Tech to be at the top and that the Red Raiders might be hanging out a bit):

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders (32-2 overall, 9-1 Big 12)
  • Baylor Bears (21-9 overall, 5-1 Big 12)
  • Kansas Jayhawks (24-9 overall, 5-2 Big 12)
  • Arizona Wildcats (24-8 overall, 6-3 Big 12)
  • Oklahoma State Cowgirls (24-10 overall, 6-5 Big 12)
  • Utah Utes (25-10 overall, 4-4 Big 12)
  • Iowa State Cyclones (20-11 overall, 3-4 Big 12)
  • UCF Knights ( 26-10 overall, 4-6 Big 12)
  • Arizona State Sun Devils (26-9 overall, 3-6 Big 12)
  • BYU Cougars (10-21 overall, 1-6 Big 12)
  • Houston Cougars (17-19 overall, 1-9 Big 12)

It really is impressive that Texas Tech is far and away the best team the Big 12 has to offer this season. Meanwhile, the Baylor Bears are hanging out with a pretty solid spot at the No. 2 spot with a 5-1 record in the conference. It’s unlikely that Baylor gets ahead of Texas Tech, but the Red Raiders should still keep an eye on the.
