Willie Fritz and the Houston Cougars, at the end of just their second season together, managed to truly overachieve and get to double digit wins this season in such an impressive way. The Coogs probably shouldn’t be sitting at 10-3 on the season, but they are and they looked pretty solid against the LSU Tigers in the Texas Bowl to wrap up their season.
And as impressive of a win as that one happens to be, it’s worth noting that Houston beating LSU also helps out the Red Raiders a little bit. Or at least it helps polish Texas Tech’s resume a little bit.
Why is that?
Well now, with the Cougars sitting at 10-3 overall, Texas Tech has officially beaten four different teams who managed to win at least 10 games this year. And that’s a solid feat, if you ask me.
Texas Tech now has four wins against teams that have won at least 10 games this season after Houston’s win over the LSU Tigers
Because the Houston Cougars were able to beat the LSU Tigers in the 2025 Texas Bowl, the Red Raiders now have four victories against opponents with at least 10 wins on the season. Here’s how that breaks down:
- Texas Tech 34 - Utah 10 on Saturday, September 20, 2025
- Texas Tech 35 - Houston 11 on Saturday, October 4, 2025
- Texas Tech 29 - BYU 7 on Saturday, November 8, 2025
- Texas Tech 34 - BYU 7 on Saturday, December 6, 2025
In case you didn’t notice, none of those games ended up being particularly close. Texas Tech was able to win each of them by at least 22 points. The Red Raiders were able to beat the Utes (who are No. 15 according to the most recent College Football Playoff rankings) by 24 points, Houston (now the No. 21 team) by 24 points, BYU once (now the No. 12 team) by 22 points, and then BYU again by 27 points.
That’s a pretty successful run that Joey McGuire and his team should be very proud of! Texas Tech has played some incredibly solid football this season and there have been several teams that they’ve managed to beat that look pretty impressive.
